James is a professional artist and illustrator with a diverse background spanning tabletop games, digital media, and traditional theatre design. Notably, he collaborated with U.S.A. based developer Grod Games on the Kickstarter project Estate: Raise the Realm, where he produced 96 card illustrations, box art, and promotional marketing assets. His experience in the gaming industry further extends to Apex Legends, contributing concept art for the title's extended content.

James has illustrated book covers for fantasy authors, including UK based novelist Tom Dumbrell. His background in theatre design includes work as a scenic artist, where he designed and painted props, set pieces, and large-scale backcloths for stage productions.
